Laser Hair Removal "Ideal Candidate"?

I've seen quite a lot of references to the "Ideal" laser hair removal candidate. Does anyone know what this means?

Hi and welcome to the laser hair removal forum! The "ideal candidate" concept is usually used as a sort of short hand to refer to a patient who exhibits characteristics that are likely to make him or her produce successful, permanent reduction of hair after treatment with laser.

As lasers target the dark MELANIN in the hair roots, the ideal candidate would have black or dark hair. Melanin also exists in the skin, however, and if too much of the laser energy is absorbed by the skin cells rather than the hair cells, this can create burns. So the other main aspect to the "ideal" situation for laser hair treatment is pale skin. If you have a tan, it is recommended to lose it before looking to have any laser treatment!
