long term safety of lasers
Hi, it’s my first post in this forum. I want to know about the long term safety of laser hair removal. Does laser only target the hair follicles alone? Isn't their any damage to the skin surrounding the hair follicles? I have recently had my first laser hair removal treatments and know very well that it does cause damage to the surrounding skin and their is redness and burns after the treatment, that is why local anesthetic creams are used. Does this skin damage has some delayed consequences like early aging and does the laser in any way increase the chances of cancer or not?
Plz help me. I feel as if I have done same serious mistake without thinking of the consequences.

Hi violet,
Medical lasers have been in use for a long time and these are used widely in various fields. The use of lasers for laser hair removal is not a recent practice, and not a single long term hazard of laser hair removal has been reported. Talk about more safety than this
Laser hair removal procedure is associated with some side effects which are also documented in detail and there is nothing like hidden effects. Nowadays people are not fooled easily they want to know everything about the procedure then agree to go for it.
Laser hair removal certainly is expensive. People don't pay money to get scared for life and if there were some long term safety issues there should have been some lawsuits filed about it.
Laser light does not in any way cause cancer or increase any chances of cancer. The laser light used for laser hair removal has a non-ionizing light in visible spectrum and is not associated with cancers unlike U-V light and X-rays.
You can see the mechanism of laser hair removal to find how laser targets the hair. There some effects on the surrounding skin but these are effectively controlled with Laser hair removal post operative care.

I hope that this will soothe some nerves :)
