Waxing is a popular method of temporary hair removal. It’s actually a method of "epilation".
Epilation means removal of the entire hair shaft, including the part below the skin which is not visible. The other temporary methods of epilation are
1. Waxing
2. Sugaring
3. Electric Epilators
4. Plucking
5. Threading
6. Intense pulsed light
Now let’s get back to waxing. The method of waxing is simply and some can easily do it at home but professional assistance is recommended. During waxing a wax combination is spread over the skin in a thin layer. A cloth strip is pressed on the top of this wax layer and then pulled off with a quick movement removing the wax along with the hair and dead skin along with the wax.
As the dead cells present on the top skin layer are also removed during waxing. This new skin surface added with hair removal gives quite a good skin feel after waxing. It provides hair removal for about 2 to 4 weeks. Hairs grow less and become finer with each treatment. But this may vary from person to person.
Not recommended for persons suffering from diabetes, varicose veins, sensitive skin or skin rashes.
The person using Accutane, Renova, Differin or Retin-A are advised to wait for at least a month before doing waxing as these medications tend to weaken the skin and tearing of the skin may occur during waxing.
Waxing can be applied to all the body areas except male genitals, nipples, eyelashes, inside the ears and nose. Waxing should also not be used on the skin areas affected by warts, pimples, moles or rashes or on skin that is irritated, broken or having sunburns.
