Does laser hair removal hurt?
July 13, 2008 - 17:21
Who can tell me if it hurts to have laser hair removal done? I have a really low pain threshold and i don't want to have laser hair removal done if it is going to hurt.

Dear wildchick,
I hear your concern. It is certainly a worry to think of the pain you might feel when you go for laser hair removal.
I would like to reassure you as far as possible. Most people who undergo laser hair removal do not call the procedure painful. There is some discomfort, people often describe it as a feeling like snapping an elastic band against the skin. If you have had waxing or electrolysis in the past, then this is much less painful.
To minimize the discomfort, it is a good idea to shave the area before having treatment. This makes it less uncomfortable and does not affect the effectiveness of the treatment.
If you are at all concerned, please have a consultation at your laser hair removal clinic and ask about pain management. With modern cooling methods, laser hair removal is even less painful than it was in the past.
Good luck!
