Hi, I am new to this forum. I was hoping someone could answer my question. I am planning about getting laser hair removal. The area i m planning is my face and bikini area. Previously i have been using waxing and tweezing for hair removal of these areas. I have learnt that one should stop tweezing and waxing before laser. Is this correct? And for how much time should i have to leave the hair. The hairs on my chin look really mean and can’t leave them as it is. Tell me what I should do about this problem.
Hi silvia welcome to the Laser hair removal forum.
Well tweezing and waxing are the epilatory methods of hair removal. All the epilatory methods remove the entire hair shaft, including the part below the skin which is not visible i.e pulling the hair from the roots.
Before laser hair removal treatment all the epilatory methods like Waxing, Sugaring, Electric Epilators, Plucking & Threading Should be avoided because lasers selectively target the dark coloured melanin pigment present in the hair shaft and hair follicle leaving the light colored skin unharmed. If u remove the target before laser hair removal how can laser find its target. So its advised before laser hair removal trearment that you should stop all the epilatory methods including Waxing, Sugaring, Electric Epilators, Plucking & Threading so that the hair gain some length so that these can be targeted with the lasers. Hair need at least 4-6 weeks before they regain their normal growth cycle. For addition information about care before treatment see the Laser hair removal preoperative care.
While you have stopped waxing or tweezing before laser hair removal treatment you can shave the area to make these hair less visible.

I think I'll have my first laser removal appointment soon.
Hope it's not too painful.
